\u201cThe virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel\u201d which means \u201cGod with us\u201d. (Matt. 1:23)<\/p>\n

I am certain that Joseph did not have peace when he heard of Mary\u2019s pregnancy. How could one have peace under such circumstances. Matthew records that Joseph intended to break the engagement off quietly (Matt. 1:19), which was probably a decision arrived at after many sleepless nights. Eventually, peace came to Joseph through the words of an angel in a dream, assuring him that the child Mary was carrying was from the Holy Spirit for the salvation of God\u2019s people (Matt. 1:20-21). Matthew\u2019s reference to Isaiah 7:14 about the virgin birth presents to us a name that carries the meaning of true peace \u2013 Immanuel.<\/p>\n

Humankind lost the true sense of peace when we plunged into the deep pit of sin. We have become selfish and proud, and often seek our own interest over the interest of others. We are totally disoriented because we have lost our connection with God our Creator. We are no longer able to consider anything from God\u2019s perspective because our own interests cloud our vision.<\/p>\n

IMMANUEL, which means \u201cGod with us\u201d, is the means for true peace. It is when God comes to us, and we connect with God again, that we will achieve peace from within. Jesus\u2019 presence brings God to us, so that we can experience \u201cGod with us\u201d in the most intimate manner. When humankind achieves peace with God, we will achieve peace within ourselves, and receive the love of God that allows us to pursue peace with others.<\/p>\n

Do you have peace this Christmas? May our Immanuel God grant you peace through Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace.<\/p>\n
