Rev. Jimmy Chong, DTh, is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in Malaysia and currently serves as Dean of Student Affairs at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (STM). His work focuses on integrating theological education with public faith, with particular emphasis on Christian witness and practice in multicultural and socially complex contexts.
Dr. Chong began his academic journey in the arts and graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), Australia, with a degree in Fine Arts. Responding to a call to ministry, he later pursued theological education—earning a Master of Divinity from STM and a Master of Theology from Singapore Bible College. He completed his Doctor of Theology at the ATESEA Theological Union (ATU), with research interests centered on public theology, the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Reformed theology, reflecting his strong commitment to contextual engagement and the mission of the church.
Dr. Chong teaches a wide range of subjects, including Christian Theology, Theology and Philosophy, Contemporary Theological Thought, Introduction to Postmodern Theology, Bonhoeffer’s Theology, Calvin’s Theology, Public Theology, and Christianity and the Arts. His interdisciplinary approach and theological depth have earned him broad appreciation from students.
Beyond teaching and pastoral ministry, Dr. Chong is an active researcher and writer. He has authored two books: Communion: Social Imagination in Everyday Public Theology (2022) and Plurality and Communion: Theological Reflections in Diverse Contexts (2023). He also translated More Calvinist than Calvin? Hardline Reformed Theology and the Malaysian Church (2023). His writings often emerge from everyday realities, exploring how Christian faith can embody communion, hope, and witness in pluralistic societies.
