Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on navigating the hermeneutical challenges of interpreting Paul’s teachings in today’s diverse and sometimes secular society.
- Discover the captivating journey of Paul, from Pharisee to apostle of Christ.
- Uncover how his religious and historical context shaped the rich tapestry of his life in the ancient Mediterranean culture of ‘hellenistic Judaism’.
- Dive into the social and political backdrop of Paul’s era, and his newly founded ‘churches’ in the Roman world.
- Explore how we can engage with Paul’s writings in a multireligious world, particularly within the context of Western Europe, where religious beliefs may vary widely. Reflect on the complexities of applying Paul’s insights in environments that may be less religious or even non-religious.
Our discussion will be enriched by the unique perspective of our speaker, a Lutheran pastor and esteemed biblical scholar. Drawing from his upbringing in socialist East Germany and his extensive experience teaching New Testament, he will shed light on how his theological tradition and personal biography inform his interpretation of Paul’s teachings.
