Consecration and Rededication Week
Rev Dr Lim Kar Yong
Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you. Joshua 3:5
On 1 April 2021, STM charted a fresh beginning with the appointment of its 5th Principal, Dr Chong Siaw Fung. At the same time, the new building extension and renovations of the existing buildings including the administrative office and chapel (estimated total project cost of over RM 6 million) have also been completed. With all these new and positive changes, it was decided that the week of 12-16 April 2021 be set aside for a period of consecration and rededication for the entire community to the Lord.
The week began with the faculty coming together in a time of sharing, confession, praying, and ministering to one another on 12 April. We recognised that as faculty members, our role is just not to teach and impart knowledge. As a spiritual institution training God’s people for ministry, we are to lead by example by starting with ourselves and recommitting ourselves to the Lord and to one another. This was then followed by an online chapel service on the morning of 13 April where we spent time worshiping the Lord and reading the Scripture. On the evening of 14 April, a special Taize service was held where the entire community came together and sat around the cross for a time of silent reflection, prayer, confession, and rededication to the Lord. This meaningful service ended with a time of reconciliation, sharing of peace, and ministering to one another.
The week climaxed with a special rededication and blessing service held in the newly renovated chapel on 15 April. After more than a year of silence, we could finally, as a community, offer our united voices accompanied by musical instrument in songs of praise to God in this beautiful place, adhering to SOP issued by the government. Various teams were formed to go around and pray for every building in the campus. The service then continued with our thanksgiving to God for his faithfulness and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by Rev Dr Lim Kar Yong.
We give thanks to God for his favour and protection for all of us in STM. As we march into the new beginning, we continue to look to the Lord for his guidance, favour, and blessing for the seminary. We ask that you will join us in prayer as we continue to equip God’s people for ministry.
Many years ago, students from other countries could come n be trained in STM
Now that it’s online, are there such participants?
Thank you for reminding me of Lectio Divina
Was taught it long ago but had not been consistent in practice
Currently, for our in campus full time courses, we do not have students from other countries. As for short modules which are conducted online, there may be overseas students joining us. STM has recently launched the Micro- Learning programme which is designed and developed using the latest media technology to allow the greater Christian communities to access to theological and biblical studies online, from any place, at their convenience, at their own paces.
