Deepening Biblical Faith Creatively and Experientially

The Centre  for Bible Engagement (CBE) at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (STM) is an interactive space that aims to foster deeper engagement with both the Old and New Testaments. We invite students and visitors to encounter the Scriptures in various immersive ways through tangible exploration alongside reading and studying the Scripture.

CBE Objective

We seek to cultivate a commitment to studying the Bible through visual storytelling (archaeological replicas, posters, pictures), historical storytelling, and hands-on learning. This initiative aligns with STM’s mission to form biblically grounded and contextually relevant Christians.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CENTRE

Archaeological Replicas

The CBE features a growing collection of replicas of ancient Near Eastern artifacts. They provide a glimpse into the historical and cultural contexts of biblical narratives. On certain Opens Days, students and faculty help visitors connect these past realities to the biblical story. Their introduction of these replicas sparks interest and invites curiosity, at the same time making the Scriptures more engaging.

Papyrus Writing Exercise

Experience the ancient world of the biblical scribes! Visitors can try their hand at writing selected verses on replica papyrus. CBE organises this hands-on activity to foster appreciation for the painstaking process of Scripture transmission.

 Student-Made Models

CBE proudly showcases handcrafted models of:

    • Moses’ Tabernacle – capturing God’s instruction to establish a place of worship in the Sinai wilderness.
    • Solomon’s Temple – remembering the theological centrality of Jerusalem’s first temple.
    • Herod’s Temple – illustrating the backdrop of Jesus’ earthly ministry.

These models are constructed by STM students as part of their biblical coursework. This endeavour represents a unique fusion of research, creativity, and theological education.

CBE Open Days

STM organises an Open Day annually for church groups and individuals to experience the vision and work of the CBE. The purpose is to:

    • Visualise biblical narrative in a fresh way.
    • Spark creative teaching ideas for church ministry.
    • Deepen biblical literacy by connecting text with the artifacts.
    • Encounter the Word of God not only intellectually but experientially.

A Living Learning Space

CBE aims to provide a living learning space — featuring a variety of biblical artifacts, student creativity, dedicated lectures, and ongoing discoveries in biblical studies. The CBE collections is a resource for Bible background classes, personal enrichment, and church group visits.

In short, CBE invites people to experience the Bible beyond the page.

For more information on the Open Day or to arrange a visit, contact the STM Office or reach out to the CBE Director (elainegoh@stm2.edu.my).
