Reserve Books (Red Spot) & Current Course Notes

Books that are required or recommended reading by your lecturers are set aside (“red-spotted” or placed on reserve) at the Reserve Book Section. Notes and compiled readings for the current semester’s courses are also located at the Reserve Book Section.

Call Number: (see Understanding Call Numbers)
  • Arranged numerically from 000-999 (Dewey Decimal System), and then alphabetically by suffix within the 000-999.
  • English, Chinese and Malay books are shelved separately. A “red spot” sticker on the book spine identifies it as a reserve book. On the OPAC, reserve books can be identified by the prefix “RS”.

Terms for use:

  • Any number of Red-Spot books may be used freely within the Reserve Book Section, but must be checked out at the Circulation Desk if they are taken out of the Reserve Book Section.
  • Only ONE book may be checked out from the Reserve Book Section at a time, whether for use in the General Reading Area, or taken out of the Library.

Loan period: Overnight loan, to be returned by 11:00 a.m. the next working day; may be renewed twice (subject to reservation by other patrons)

Overdue fine: RM1.00 per item after 11:00 a.m. and thereafter an additional RM1.00 per item each subsequent hour.
 
Course notes/readings: Not to be removed from Reserve Book Section; no borrowing.
Please help to return books to their correct location on shelf after use.
